On May 20 th 2003 an article of the newspaper “Il Resto del Carlino” speack about the discovery of a crop circle in Loiano (Bologna). We quote here part of the article (full article in the PDF version of this document).
In Barbarolo Loiano (Bologna) have suddenly appeared three circles drawn on the wheat. The pilgrimage of curious and impassioned of ufology is continuos [...]. Andrea Morara, owner of a field really next to the one in which the mysterious circles have appeared, has immediately taken some photos. And Fabio Naldi, inhabitant of Livergnano, has not even wasted time. In short, someone seems really to believe the fact that on the fields of Barbarolo can be landed "Ufo Robot". One of the "believer" is Vittorio Monti della Guarda: «I have always been sceptic - says - I have been living here for sixty years and I have never seen a similar thing. And when my brother-in-law the other evening has called me, I went to see and I have been amazed. The three circles are uniform: two have the grass crushed in clockwise sense, the third one counterclockwise. I remember that 15 years ago, exactly in that field, it was night and I saw a shade that got up. I didn't care, but now...». "

The field is not wheat but hay and medical grass. Unfortunately the circle should be appeared the night between Friday and Saturday 16-17 and therefore the conditions of the field, 4 days later, when we arrived, were not so good. As you can see the contours are ruined and the path almost confuses itself with the figures. The circles are almost lined up on the east-west axis. The plants of the first and second circles would seem folded up in clockwise sense, and the third one counterclockwise. The instrumental surveys of radioactivity have not signed interesting values. We have picked up some plants, in which we have noticed that the knots are often folded up and lengthened, but this happens also out of the circles. Samples of ground have been withdrawn with the intention to analyze its composition. We have had the possibility to talk to the farmer of the adjacent field, which has confirmed us that he has never seen a similar phenomenon, also the wind - in his opinion - cannot have succeeded in creating such a scketch. The farmer has also confirmed not to have seen or felt anybody, during the night, entering the field; and the morning after he swears not to have seen traces or paths in the plants. The mystery remains. For now we wait fot the analyses and a more deepened study of this case.
