On June 20 th 2003 near Vische (Turin) a curious sketch is discovered on the grass, immediately nicknamed “The Sail” of Vische. The newspaper “La Sentinella del Canavese” publish an article on this event, the day 23, edited by Rita Cola.
PEROSA - After some days from the discovery, the pilgrimage of curious people coming to see the "crop circle" along the road between Perosa and Scarmagno it is still plentiful. However, the farmer Nelso Perno, is trying to avoid the pilgrimage; he has not only cut the wheat, but also ploughed the field. In many, however, they ask for overflying the zone to discover other mysteries. The pictogram, photographed from the air above, it seems a sail, width about fifty meters. Saturday afternoon, the engineer Francesco Grassi and doctor Mariano Tomatis, of the Cicap (Italian Center for the control on the paranormal affirmations) have made an accurate inspection in the zone. Some samples of ground will be analyzed. In that zone there would have been no intervention of the man. The maize, as it is deduced by the photos, is grown in different way. Guilt of the composition of the ground? [...]

The drawn back symbol in the field near Vische can be interpreted as a sail that, in his center, have a circle sign: The sketch has been sighted in a field that is found near the road that goes from Vische to Crotte and Strambino. On June 19th has been effected an investigation on the spot by Edoardo Russo and Paolo Fiorino (CISU) and by Stefano Bagnasco and Mariano Tomatis (CICAP). The pictogram has even been photographed by an aircraft (images in the PDF version of this document) .
Deep investigations are in progress, about both environment and material withdrawn in the site of the crop circle. In the weekend some members of the group of study of the CICAP, coordinated by Francesco Grassi, will reach the zone for other surveys.
Meanwhile, after almost one month from the discovery (on July 12), another article goes out on the Vische case. The signature is of Giuseppe Geuna, and the article contain also an interview made by Monviso to Barbadoro (president of the Ecospirituality Foundation)
The "Crop Circles " of the Canavese: joke or mystery? Discoverers and experts speech. Interview to Giancarlo Barbadoro president of the Ecospirituality Foundation.
The facts refer to the magnificent samples of sketch on fields of wheat (in English " Crop Circles", having the phenomenon interested, in the past, the Anglo-Saxon world), casually recovered in the Canavese territory, during the first two weeks of last June. The first discoverers are lady Dr. Miriam Madau and his husband, Mr. Alberto Dovana. They discovered the crop by accident, being themselves with their motorbike in the correct place (the provincial road that conducts to Crotte and then to Strambino from Vische) and casually looking in the correct direction (a field of wheat adjacent to the road). In the following days they would have rented then an airplane, with pilot accomplice in to widen the investigations and ready even to leave the "cloche" to the two enthusiastic neo-researchers, because they piloted better the small aircraft above the desired zones. The two spouses have then applied to the Ecospirituality Foundation to have some help, because this Foundation has got a Committee that deals with the search about this phenomenon. Monviso: What it is the origin of these "Crop Circles?"
Barbadoro: "We don't know the nature of the phenomenon that gives origin to the so-called "Crop Circles". We can advance only hypothesis to verify the validity of the phenomenon and to come to some proved conclusion. At the moment, we can only observe that they are sketches realized with great skill and extreme rapidity of execution and without any warning in the most unexpected places. The strangeness is that these sketches are only visible and appreciable from above or aereal view.
Monviso: Who is the author or who are the authors of the "Crop Circles?"
Barbadoro: It is not easy to establish who the author of these unusual sketches can be, and why is done. We can notice only that their demonstration arouses a great impact of curiosity in the public and surprisingly picks up even more the interest of the military authorities and public order. We don't know how to give us explanation of this last fact. They are also unfortunately there many characters that bring confusion in the investigation on the " Crop Circles" and they don't certainly contribute to make things clear on the phenomenon.
Monviso: For instance?
Barbadoro: For instance it circulates continuosly the theses of some "parascientific opinion-makers" that gives to the public the idea that alien intelligence is envolved, even if then they ontradict themselves saying that in reality the "Crop Circles" are realized by jokers that want to pick around up the gullible persons. Personally I don't understand this mediatic attitude, neither to what is finalized. But this surely prevent a serene scientific search on this matter. Many witnesses turn to the Ecospirituality Foundation saying that they are afraid to speak in public. Who knows how many others keep silent for guilt of the climate created around certain matters.
Monviso: Are the "Crop Circles" only a phenomenon of our times?
Barbadoro:Listen: these same parascientific opinionmakers affirmed that the Crop circles observed in England have been realized by a couple of pensioners in order to make some jokes. In reality the "Crop Circles" are not only a phenomenon of our times. Already in the Middle Ages, as the documents of that epoch show, strange and mysterious sketches appeared in the fields of wheat, and nobody knew, as today, to attribute origin and meaning. Perhaps other jokers that already had a good time to that times? It could be. However rather prepared and efficient jokers if they were, and are, able to realize complex structures as the sketches of the "Crop Circles" in a few time and without never being seen by anybody.
Monviso: What do you personally think about the "Crop Circles?"
Barbadoro: A phenomenon that exists, however you can feel about it; and is worth to be studied seriously on the scientific and ethnic plan, to draw greater knowledge of the various realities of the world in which we live.
