September 22 nd 2005: some circles are discovered on a field of medical grass in the district of "Quattro Castella", borough of Puianello, in the province of Reggio Emilia. The editing of “Teleraggio” (www.teleraggio.it) gave the news on September 25 with an articletitled “Jokers to Puianello.” Let's reed the article.
"Circles on the grass in the hills of Puianello. They have been noticed by a resident, that has wondered the reasons for this phenomenon and it assures to have seen lights in the sky the preceding night. Strength's fields, traces of Ufo, leaved during the night? Imagination races in these occasions. Nothing is more attractive than to make gallop the imagination. He serves all over the world him as about thirty years, from when they started to appear on the fields of wheat in southern England. About ten books have been written, has been made even a film. In effects the Puianello's circles are, how can we say, not special circles. with the grass of a greyish color, that hacks him on the rest of the verdant fields, and they don't detach on gilded ears, but on a more modest medical grass. And then they are some approximate ones, so much that is necessary to have in favor the light of the sun and a panoramic position to perceive well them. Free whoever to see the nighttime imprints of alien spaceships or some mysterious satanic rite, in scorn to the near church of the Mucciatella, that from centuries resides of riders defending Templari of the Christianity. We risk a more prosaic hypothesis. The intervention of some jokers, that now are just enjoying the mediatic echoes. Also for many gods nobler circles in the wheat of England the origin was the same one, as they confessed, after various years, two lively retired jokers, that for a long time had drawn them using a steel bar as compass. And the Cicap (committee for the control of the affirmations on the paranormal), has played, in more occasions, good pranks to credulous ufologists.

Antecedent
Friday 23 September Lara Zarotti, an affiliate to the C.U.N. of Reggio Emilia, goes to the newspaper kiosk and notes that in first page in the local daily paper “The information of Reggio Emilia” there is the news of the appearance of some mysterious circles in a field of medical grass to Puianello, a country in the commune of Four Castellas (Reggio Emilia). The article, edited by Luca Soliani, tells that a woman the evening before the appearance of the circles, would have seen 5 bright spheres rotate in the portion of sky above the field. Considering that the article has been published Friday, it supposes that the circle has appeared Thursday morning and that the lights seen by the woman go up again to Wednesday evening. Miss Zarotti, struck by the news, has quickly told the coordinator for The Emilia of the National Ufologic Center, dr. Pattera, which has informed the undersigned at the right moment, resident to 20 street minutes from Puianello, inviting him to have an investigation on the spot to deepen the situation. Finished the working day, therefore, I have approached in the zone pointed out by the newspaper and, after having ascertained that in the cafes of the country nobody knew nothing of the history, I have finally tracked the lawn in which the circles made beautiful show down. Seen the schedule, 18.45, I have been inside the field for few time, because the sun was starting to lower. Just the time to ascertain the presence of the five circles, or better rings, and it was already time to reenter.
The investigation on the spot
The following morning, Saturday 24, I have returned on the place of the circles, and together with Lara Zarotti of the C.U.N. we have effected the investigation on the spot, provided with tools and equipment to withdraw some champions of ground. In front of our eyes 5 rings were introduced in which the medical grass was folded up in hourly sense, roadstead, deprived of the leaves and it had the whole air to be dry, unlike the center of the circles in which was green and luxuriant. The "counter geiger" turned on inside the formations showed entirely a value of oscillating normal radioactivity between the 0,01 and the 0,03 milli/roentgens. While I was intent to examine the dry stems, Lara has acknowledged the presence of other rings that brought the scenery to a total of 7 formations, well 3 in more than those signalled on the local daily paper. It has not been possible to see from the tall one the removal of the rings, but an analysis served as the underlying roadm, has allowed to create the following approximate scheme (visible in the PDF italian version of this document). The first ring on the right had an external diameter of 5.20m and an inside of 2.80m around. The medical grass was present to the center, while in the ring was folded up in hourly sense and it missed the leaves. On the edge the leaves of medical grass were yellowish, very probably annoyed. The second ring, outdistanced around of 20m by the first one, had an external diameter of 8.70m and an inside of 6.30 around. The third ring had an external diameter of 8.60m and an inside of 5m around. The quarter and the fifth ring were connected and they formed a similar figure to a "8". Their dimensions were in the order, external diameter 8.60m and inside 5.60m and 11.20m for 8.80m around. In these 4 brought closer rings (2,3,4,5) the medical grass was present to the center while in the circular crown there were only the stems, in some circumstance very thin, lain down to the ground and completely annoyed. Some of them had a sort of bordeaux coloration (italian says "vinaccia"), enough dark. The present musk on the ground had a yellowish coloration. Particularly in the point of contact among the quarter and the fifth circle the folded up stems had blackened and they seemed to have been shorn. The sixth circle had an external diameter of 6.80m for an inside of 4.20m while the seventh ring measured 8.30m for 5.90m. In this last ring the folded up stems were green and not annoyed as in the central formations. All the 7 formations had an enough irregular form and in some cases ovoidal. After the measurement of the rings we have withdrawn some champions of ground, musk and stems inside the formations and a handful of soil to the outside for the comparison. Everything will be from me delivered as soon as possible to dr. Pattera of the C.U.N. for the customary analyses. To signal that in the proximities of the fifth circle we have recovered a bottle of beer: could it be a trace left by the presumed creator of the circle? During the investigation on the spot we have been approached by a resident of the place which has revealed us that, the night when formations would have appeared, his dogs have absolutely been calm and have not barked as they do as soon as they feel the least noise. In effects for the whole time of our investigation the animals have persistently barked. He has confirmed besides us that a resident woman to the feet of the hillock would have seen some lights in sky the same evening. We have tried to contact this woman to pick up her testimony but her husband has kindly invited us to go away, because he was bothered by the whole clamor aroused in these days.
Reflections
The traces of Puianello are indeed enough strange. We have 7 rings in which the medical grass is thin, folded up to the ground and in 5 you look for on 7 completely annoyed. There are some signs that could sustain 4 different hypotheses. 1.Fungo: The stems color"vinaccia" could suggest the presence of a mushroom that would have acted on the medical grass, as already in relief in passed by other investigations conducted by the dr. Pattera. It would be, in every case, a strange fact that a mushroom can casually create 7 rings in a field of medical grass. But it is known, at times the nature is very amazing. 2:Cuscuta: is a parasitic plant that twists to the stems and makes the medical grass die. In the ground similar yellowish traces remain to “elastic”. In Puianello indeed, in the central rings, we have found yellowish traces in the musk but not in the circle 1 and 7 where the grass was green. 3:fraudulent hypothesis: This hypothesis foresees the realization of the rings in order to joke from some clowns. Technically it would have been possible to tear the leaves from the medical grass, to sprinkle some herbicide and to repeat the same operation for seven times. The strange fact in this case would be represented by the dogs, numerous in the zone, that would not have barked in presence of extraneous. 4:not conventional hypotesys: The last hypothesis foresees that a form of non conventional energy has acted on the field of medical grass realizing the rings. Could the signs be given by the stems and by the dry leaves (how submitted to microwaves?) and from the lights seen by the woman the evening of the creation of the circles.
On October 19 the results of the analyses of the dr Pattera arrived, and "CentroStudiFortiani" publishes them (they are available in the version PDF of this document).
The comment to the analyses edited by George Pattera, was simple: circles don't contain some unusual chemical individual for a ground to agricultural use. The only observation to be noticed, from the point of a geo-chemical point of view, is the strong calcareous tendency of the ground, however compatible with the place in which is found. Insofar the two possible hypotheses to be formulated as cause of the phenomenon (not new in nature) could be the radial expansion of a" micromicete" (sort of mushroom) or the deliberate scattering (joke?) of herbicidal liquids.
Updating to 08/11/2005 and conclusions.
A definitive confirmation that the mysterious circular traces of Puianello are of conventional origin has come from manager of the medical department of the provincial agrarian consortium in Parma, that, contacted by manager of the medical department of the provincial agrarian consortium in Parma, that, contacted by dr. Pattera of the C.U.N., has so judged the whole story: “Also not excluding the possibility of dispersion, in circular form, of herbicidal substances from some inconsiderate, in the case in object (Puianello) is more believable an hypothesis of "FITOPATIA", or rather an affection of the essence ("Medicago sativa", medical grass), derived by the attack of spores act of it (micromiceti) or from technical causes, what I stagnate water (few probable, dates the inclination of the ground) or more easily from the repeated one and prolonged permanence in the same piece of ground of the same crop (missed alternation of cultivations). This is well known in agricultural environment and goes under the name of ache"vinato", for the color sharpen (what recalls that some vinacces) that the stems of grass assume, following the scarce or even missed maintenance of the same ground”. At this point I would say that the case can be pronounced closed!
