June 17th 2004: Casei Gerola-Pontecurone

On June 22nd 2004, four days after the recovery of the crop circle (photo above), Ilaria Dotta writes an interesting article for the newspaper "Il Giornale del Piemonte" (pag. 9): The Ufos land near Alessandria. [...]Near Pontecurone, small country in province of Alessandriat, [...] has happened in the last days something rather strange. [...] «Everything has happened in the night between Thursday and last Friday, more precisely between the midnight and the five o'clock in the morning» - tells Alfredo Lissoni of the Cun (National Ufologic Center). Just few hours before, a group of young boys had passed nearby, and they had not noticed anything strange. Then, suddenly, the circles. Seven, great and perfect circles. Drawn by a «not human» entity, according to someone. Maybe by the hand of a skilled «land artist», according to someone else. «Formation is composed by seven circles prepared to "Latin cross" for a length of 32 meters - has explained Lissoni immediatly after his investigation on the spot. iThe sketch is excellent made and the ears are softly folded up toward the ground, tilted along the knots of the stem». There are no ruined ears according to the experts of the Cun. «This would inevitably take to the conclusion of excluding that it deals with the action of some jokers with batons, ropes or rakes». The first circle, that greater, has a diameter of over thirteen meters and a half, and the ears are all folded up in counterclockwise sense, beginning from a point situated three/quarters from the center of the circle. «The most interesting thing - says Valentino Rocchi, C.U.N. investigator - it is that the sketch is found in the middle of the ears, with no traces of entrance». Those traces that you seen now, in fact, have been created by the stamping of the so many curious that have come on the place in the last two days. And the ufologist are not afraid to jump to the «logic» conclusions: «The only system to realize a figure of this kind is to do it from above”.[...] It is the first time in Italy, that a similar sketch is found in a field integrally surrounded by whole ears. During 2003 we have been called to intervene in twenty different set. For instance, just ten days ago, we were in AcquiTerme. But this of Pontecurone is without doubt the most important case that has been signalled untill now». Such an important case had inevitably aroused the curiosity of the Cicap, the Italian Committee for the control of the paranormal assertions. So Francesco Grassi took look, and report: «I have been in Pontecurone on Sunday, and I can affirm that for sure it concerns indeed a splendid geometric formation - explains the Cicap researcher - a crop circle that surely doesn't have a natural origin». Storms, wind and hail have therefore to be excluded. But he doesn't even speak about "paranormal". «It is a sketch realized by human hands - concludes Grassi - by some good artist that knows to have to stay anonymous». [...] The day before had already been published an article on “Il Piccolo”, a local newspaper in Alessandria, that reported the notes of Rocchi and Lissone, concluding that Pontecurone is actually the "most important case ever signalled in Italy" But the first newspaper that spoke about this case had been “La Provincia Pavese”, on June 19th (see the article on PDF version of this document) “Metro”, journal of Milan, some days later, publish this article (see below) including a colour picture. If according to Grassi and Cicap the case is interesting but “human-made”, instead according to the C.U.N. there is something more. In fact Valerio Rocchi, of the National Ufologic Center, has carried out some analyses (thanks to the Foundation Sentinel), whose results are quoted - together with other informations and photos - in the PDF version of this document, available in the 2004 database.
