crop circle Montevecchio
photo: anonimous (Giorgio?) Pubblished by CROPONLINE.ORG

(We apologize for possible errors in the translation)

The first of March, near Montevecchio (Lecco), someone finds and photographs this formation (image above).
Nothing is known about it. The photo is published by Croponline.org in a section devoted to the “anomalous” crop circles.
One month later, surfing the web I find this message in a forum:
I have taken off this pic in Montevecchio, in the province of Lecco: http://www.croponline.org/images/fairycircle.jpg
Could it be a "fairy circle"?

The answer comes, indirectly, from the independent scientific newspaper, “intellego”:
They are called "fairy circles", they are found in Namibia and they are of the deprived circular areas of vegetation. The origin? Totally unknown. A popular legend narrates is work of fairies, but for the scientists this explanation is insufficient and so they are investigating. Becomed year after year a sortt of tourist attraction, they are constituted by arid sandy ground surrounded by ground in which the vegetation is present. The first hypothesis attributes the formation of circles to a presumed radioactivity that was on the ground, then to some mysterious toxic proteins highly released by the surrounding vegetation (Euphorbia damarana) that would free such toxic proteins to also kill all the other present plants; in the end thei èpresence is attributed to the termites, that would have eaten the seeds of the grass, so that the grass would not be anymore growth. Therefore the researchers have put on on the traces of termites: «We have dug up to a depth of two meters, but we have not found some sign», he explains van Rooyen. The results have denied all the hypotheses.
The examinations conducted on some samples of ground withdrawn by these areas are negative to the radioactivity, and the vegetation it seems to succeed in also surviving in those zones previously occupied by poisonous bushes. As it regards the termites, they actually are able to do something of that kind, but in those zones there are no revealing signals of their presence.
Despite the researchers continues their own studies, in the hope to find a scientific motivation to the phenomenon, there is who - smiling - sustains to have the answer to the origin of the "fairy circles", since a long time: it's the work of fairies!
